HIMACHAL PRADESH

  • Industrial package for HP, others soon

  • The BJP-led NDA regime is proposing to come out with a new industrial package for Himachal, Uttarakhand, Jammu and Kashmir and North-Eastern states, which will go a long way in helping these attracting industry with big investments.

  • An indication to this effect has been given by the Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion at the Centre to the Himachal Government. The hill state had been given an industrial package by the Vajpayee government, which helped in attracting investments, considering the incentives offered under it.

  • Under the new package, to be announced shortly, the states are likely to get capital and transport subsidies but there will be no tax concessions. The industry that is eligible for 10-year holiday under the GST will be entitled to partial refund.

  • There has been flight of industry and slowdown in investment with the ending of the industrial package given by the NDA regime to Himachal. Many industrial houses put on hold their expansion plans while others set up new units elsewhere. With jobs in the government sector being limited, it is only through industrial development that state like Himachal can generate employment.

  • The investments, promised during these industrial meets held in Mumbai, Chennai, Bangalore and Delhi, never materialised.
