HIMACHAL PRADESH

  • Achhe din for state on power front

  • The news of enhanced revenue from the power sector this time as compared to recent years has come as a big relief to the cash-strapped government with Rs 927 crore coming to the exchequer from the sale of power.

  • It is after two-three years that the grim power scenario seems to be looking up and the power rate per unit too has risen from an average of around Rs 2.50 per unit to almost Rs 3.10 per unit. As compared to November 2016 when a mere Rs 760 crore had come as earning from sale of power, this time this figure has touched Rs 927 crore.

  • Himachal, on an average, is producing 11,000 million units (mu) of power per year out of which 8,000 mu are required for the state’s own consumption while remaining 3,000 (mu) are sold. The revenue of Rs 927 crore earned so far is from the share that the state receives from various power projects.
